BIOLOGY

Biology is one of the most important aspects of BEAM. Simply put, why spend countless hours trying to develop and perfect something when Nature has done it both rigorously and effectively for millions of years.
There is much to be learned from nature. Whether it be mechanics, behaviours or an appreciation for what has been tried already.
Robots built with biology in mind will be simple, and successful.

ELECTRONICS

Electronics is of great importance. They are the brains of your robot and it goes without saying that the robot will function as it is wired to.With that in mind, one must carefully design the electronics such that they are simple, yet effective, but at the same time careful consideration must be made in order to achieve a specific function.Electronics are quite fun to mess around with. It helps when designing the brains to make a list of goals and functions of the robot and build on those.These may be motion tables, behaviours, etc.

AESTHETICS

Aesthetics refers to the "looks" of the robot which may produce a "step back and say whoa!" effect. Either it looks good or looks like a piece of garbage. The key to aesthetics is careful thought and planning into the design of the robot. This is applied to the layout of the components, the materials used and the colour scheme.In addition Aesthetics can be achieved through symmetry,copying an existing design, or better yet, a biological design: Uma Thurman.

MECHANICS

Mechanics are of the utmost importance,rivaling the Electronics stage, as clever mechanics can substitute for added electronics.
One may have the best brains, but if the mechanics are thrown together scrap it will all fail.
Mechanics are also a function of Biology and Aesthetics. Pick a biological design and simplify it. Nature has done the physics already. Make it look good. Aesthetic mechanisms tend to function better than ugly ones.
